CONTACT

For distribution, licensing, festival screenings, theatrical bookings, home video, VOD, television, press, research and professional enquiries concerning The Whapung Collection.

The Whapung Collection is an ongoing programme dedicated to the restoration and international rediscovery of thirteen Korean films produced between 1979 and 1985 by Chung Chang-wha’s Whapung company.

Karmax-910 controls the worldwide rights across all media to the thirteen films in the collection.

As the restoration programme progresses, professional enquiries are welcome from distributors, film festivals, cinematheques, museums, repertory cinemas, home-video labels, broadcasters, streaming platforms, cultural institutions, researchers and members of the press.

PROJECT CONTACT

Frédéric Ambroisine coordinates The Whapung Collection for Karmax-910 and serves as the principal contact for the project’s editorial, restoration and international presentation activities.

His work includes historical and editorial research, restoration follow-up, documentation of the films, coordination of international presentations, and communication with festivals, cinematheques, programmers, distributors, home-video labels and other professional partners.

Ambroisine has worked on Chung Chang-wha’s cinema for more than two decades. He first interviewed the filmmaker extensively in the early 2000s for the French DVD edition of King Boxer released by Wild Side, and material from his work with Chung was subsequently included in Arrow Video’s Shawscope Volume One.

The Whapung Collection continues this long-term work by focusing on one of the least internationally known chapters of Chung Chang-wha’s career: his return to South Korea and his subsequent work as a producer through Whapung.

DISTRIBUTION & LICENSING

FESTIVALS & SCREENINGS

Film festivals, cinematheques, museums, repertory cinemas, universities and cultural institutions interested in presenting the restored films are invited to contact the project.

Enquiries may concern individual screenings, several films, thematic programmes, special events, or larger retrospectives devoted to Chung Chang-wha and Whapung.

Depending on the event, screenings may also be accompanied by introductions, Q&As, discussions or presentations exploring the history of the films, their restoration and the wider career of Chung Chang-wha.

PROFESSIONAL VIEWING MATERIALS

As the restoration programme progresses, viewing materials for completed titles can be made available to qualified professional partners.

Distributors, programmers, festival representatives, home-video labels, broadcasters and other industry professionals may contact the project for information concerning available titles, restoration status, viewing materials and technical masters.

PRESS, RESEARCH & DOCUMENTATION

The Whapung project also welcomes enquiries from journalists, film historians, researchers, authors and institutions interested in Chung Chang-wha, Whapung, the individual films or the restoration programme.

The continuing research surrounding the collection encompasses the films themselves, surviving archival materials, production history, Chung Chang-wha’s career as a producer, and the broader historical relationship between the Korean and Hong Kong film industries.
